SCARSDALE, N.Y. The Scarsdale Union Free School District Board of Education granted tenure to one employee and raised four teachers to probationary status Monday night at its bimonthly meeting.
The meeting was held during the board's annual visit to Fox Meadow School.
The newly tenured employee is Marc Krauss, a school psychologist whose probationary period began in November 2009.
The four teachers promoted from regular substitute or part-time status to probationary are Elise D'Ammore, a middle school math teacher, Cristal Edwards, a Heathcote School pre-K-grade 6 teacher, Kristina Lantz, a Quaker Ridge pre-k-grade 6 teacher, and Sydney Lipez, a Fox Meadow pre-K-grade 6 teacher.
Another teacher, Julia Huang of Edgewood Elementary, was granted childcare leave without pay from Dec. 16 to June 30, and Marissa Unger, a world language teacher at the high school, had her probationary status rescinded as she resigned prior to the start of classes in September.
In other business, the board unanimously approved awarding a contract for roof repairs as needed this year to Maximus I. The company beat out three others in the bidding process.
A scheduled review of the school's purchasing policy was tabled to give the board more time to gather additional information.
Superintendent Michael McGill said the search for a new high school principal to replace John Klemme, who retired at the end of the 2010-2011 school year, is about the get under way.
"I expect to advertise the position before Christmas and begin the actual search after the break," he said, adding that the timing would put the school ahead of the usual schedule of beginning the search at the end of January.
