The board made the decision on Oct. 6 after input from school administrators, faculty, staff and the community, starting in 2012. The highest priority projects for each of the schools was determined through the work of building and steering committees, administrative recommendations, board study and analysis and community feedback.

In addition to the capital projects that are to be funded through the proposed bond financing, the Scarsdale Education Foundation has offered to support two other projects at Scarsdale High School: a new design lab for $1.8 million and a new fitness center for $800,000.

The district will use $500,000 of capital funds previously approved by voters for these projects to complete funding. The Madoff family is also donating state?of?the?art exercise equipment totaling $300,000 for the new fitness center, in memory of their son Tyler, a Scarsdale High School student, who was swept out to sea during a Hawaii hiking and kayaking tour in 2012.

More information about the referendum and capital projects is available at the Scarsdale Public Schools website here.
