In all, the district has proposed approximately $20 million in projects that would be used to make necessary improvements throughout the district, including a complete technology upgrade and several expansions of existing spaces.

As the world continues to become more digitized, there will be a district-wide technology infrastructure upgrade that is necessary to provide high speed Internet access, as it becomes a more important tool in the classroom.

For approximately $1 million, the district would also replace nearly 35,000-square-feet of the Quaker Ridge Elementary School roof that has outlived its 10-15 year lifespan. John Trenholm, the director of facilities noted that the district has been able to maintain the roof with several repairs, but the time has come to replace it.

At the Edgewood Elementary School, the planning team has proposed expanding the library, and relocating the office away from the main entrance.

The Heathcote Elementary School would get a new multi-purpose room that would enable physical education classes to return to the gym, which is currently being used for lunch. It would also created a dedicated space for physical and occupational therapy students, who presently use the auditorium stage. The middle school would get a similar space that could be used for large group instruction.

The biggest changes would be at the high school, which would create a Learning Commons that consists of additional cafeteria space and labs for students. It would also involve the relocation and expansion of the fitness center below the new gymnasium. Equipment will be donated.

In an effort to be transparent, the district will host various meetings over the summer that will allow for the community to engage with school officials. The first meeting will be at 7:30 on Wednesday, May 28 at the Scarsdale Library, where there will be a presentation from the district’s architects and a question-and-answer session. Written comments can be sent to 2 Brewster Road in Scarsdale, or to boardofed@scarsdaleschools.org.”
