SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Scarsdale students in grades 1, 3 and 5 will embrace their tendencies to build and tinker in the Engineering is Elementary: Pilot Program in the 2016-17 academic year.
Teachers from grades 1, 3 and 5 will collaborate with Jennifer Kiley, elementary helping teacher for science, to organize the following engineering experiences:
- Grade 1: The Best of Bugs: Designing Hand Pollinators
- Grade 3: The Attraction is Obvious: Designing Maglev Systems
- Grade 5: Water, Water, Everywhere: Designing Water Filters
The program is part of the district's goal of integrating STEAM learning activities in all levels of its instructional program.
Students will ask questions, test and retest hypotheses using science and math knowledge and use trial and error in engineering activities based on real-world problems and technologies.
