The decision to close school or delay its opening will be made if the District believes that weather conditions pose a significant danger to students and staff.

In the event that it is necessary to close school or delay its opening, parents and guardians will be notified by the Blackboard Connect system (phone) and the Infinite Campus Messenger (email) system.

Staff will be notified by phone and email.

These guidelines will be followed:

  • Staff calls will be sent out at approximately 5:30 a.m. All telephone numbers on file for staff will be called. An email message will be sent to the District email address.
  • Parent calls will be sent out at approximately 6:15 a.m. Only home phone numbers on file with the District will be called.
  • An email message will be sent via Infinite Campus Messenger to all parents and guardians at the addresses on file with the District.

Please make sure that the domains @scarsdaleschools.org and @scarsdaleschools.k12.ny.us are listed in your Spam filter as "allowed sender domains."

In addition, the District’s main switchboard number (914-721-2400) will have a recorded announcement, and information will be posted on the District website, cable TV station and District Facebook page.

If the decision is made to delay the opening of school, the delay will always be for two hours unless otherwise notified.

If it is necessary to dismiss students early, the decision will be made before 10 a.m. Parents and guardians will be notified immediately both by phone (all numbers on file) and email.

Parents who are unable to get their children at the early dismissal time must make other arrangements for their children to be picked up.

If the opening of school has been delayed and conditions worsen so that it is no longer safe for students to come to school, the decision to cancel school altogether will be made by 7:30 a m. All phone numbers on file will be called.

The superintendent may, at his discretion, make the decision about closings or delays the evening before the storm. In these circumstances, calls and emails to parents will be sent out before 9:30 p.m.

Transportation will be provided to eligible students following the schedules outlined above. If the opening of school is delayed, students will be picked up at their normal bus stops two hours after their normal pick-up times.
