Shet, who correctly spelled the word "eugenics" to advance, will compete in the semifinal rounds 4, 5 and 6 beginning at 10 a.m. and will go on to Thursday's  championship final if she advances. The finals will be televised at 8 p.m.

Greenburgh Town Supervisor Paul Feiner said Shet has represented the best of the community's students and that her classmates at Bailey will be watching Thursday.

According to her National Spelling Bee biography, Young Harshita’s interests include music, arts, crafts and Bollywood dance. She also has brown belt in karate. Even though her best subjects in school are science and math, she wants to be a lawyer and a teacher when she grows up and plans to attend Harvard to help her achieve that dream.

Harshita has an aquarium to house her many fish and her hermit crab, Kirby. In school, she wrote a biographical piece about First Lady Michelle Obama and dreams of meeting her in person while in Washington, D.C., for the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

"She's an amazing young girl -- one of many intelligent students who attend Greenburgh schools," Feiner said. "We wish her good luck and great success."
