Albonizio, 64, resigned Thursday from Greenwich High after 18 seasons as the team's head coach. He won 178 games and three state championships during his tenure. In his resignation, Albonizio said he "felt pressured" to step down, according to GreenwichTime.com.

On Friday, assistants Carl Cairo, Bob Mata and Steve Murphy also quit, GreenwichTime.com said, leaving Kerry Gavin, T.J. Ostruzka and Wayne Gioffre as the only remaining assistants at Greenwich High.

Greenwich finished 7-4 last year, and its last state championship came in 2007. Albonizio never had a losing season at Greenwich after coming over from Trinity Catholic High School in Stamford. He also formerly coached in Port Chester, N.Y.
