SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. – Ram Chadha was looking to make an impact in his Edgemont boys’ varsity debut Friday.

The 6-foot-3 senior, who transferred to Edgemont from Clarkstown North this year, left a lasting impression on Hackley. Chadha  finished with a game-high 16 points and 10 rebounds, leading Edgemont to a 43-36 win over Hackley in a first-round game of the 21st annual Howard Godwin Sleepy Hollow Holiday Basketball Tournament.

Edgemont will play the Sleepy Hollow-Gorton winner in the championship game at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Paul Emdin added 11 points and five steals for the Panthers and Jack Keeny added nine points and four assists.

Chadha established himself in the second quarter, scoring seven points as the Panthers outscored the Hornets, 16-7, to take a 23-16 lead.

“Coach saw what they had and he wanted to get me the ball,” said Chadha of Edgemont coach Joe Galgano. “When our guards got me the ball I was able to execute.”

Chadha also made his presence felt at the defensive end. Edgemont played a 2-3 zone, with Chada on a wing, and he showed his quickness by getting out to challenge the Hackley shooters. Hackley scored five points on two field goals in the first two minutes of the second quarter, but that was it as the Hornets managed just two free throws the remainder of the half.

“We didn’t like the way we were playing defense in the first quarter,” Chadha said. “We picked it up in the second quarter.  When we came out in the third quarter, Paul Emdin and I said that we, as a team, were going to take over the game.”

Emdin scored seven of his 11 points in the third quarter as Edgemont stretched its lead to 12 points – 36-24 – after three.

Charlie Pidariano led Hackley with 14 points and Max Parauda, Hackley’s only senior, added 11 points.
