“Trey has a whole new level of focus and clearly re-committed himself to achieving his goals this season,” Jacobson said.

Aslanian opened his season by becoming Edgemont’s career-wins leader, surpassing former teammate Genta Murayama’s 150. Aslanian was undefeated in December and is The Scarsdale Daily Voice Athlete of the Month.

A five-year varsity wrestler, Aslanian is the program’s most successful. He has three Section 1 Division II titles and three top-six finishes in the New York state championships. Aslanian, who will attend Princeton University in the fall and continue wrestling, has been a state finalist in 2011 and ’12.

“The wins and successes are no doubt satisfying for Trey, but he has always been great at keeping his eyes on the ultimate goal, winning a state title,” Jacobson said.

Aslanian is a quiet leader for Edgemont. Jacobson said Aslanian began showing leadership skills as a freshman.

“With each year of experience and maturity, he has grown in his role as a team leader,” Jacobson said. “Being the oldest of six kids and having two of his younger brothers on the team has really helped him to take that role to heart and give of himself to help others improve.”

Aslanian is currently 31-2 on the season and 167-18 for his career.
