As he gears up for a July 30 matchup against Leo Santa Cruz in Brooklyn, undefeated Irish champion boxer Carl “The Jackal” Frampton was in New Rochelle, where he spent the day training at Champs Boxing Club and shaking hands with local dignitaries.

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino was on hands to touch gloves with the champ on what he declared “Carl Frampton Appreciation Day” with a proclamation for the Belfast, Northern Ireland-native.

"One million Westchester County residents wish you do well in your championship fight, so we declare today, July 12, 'Carl Frampton Appreciation Day,'" Astorino said.

Frampton was joined at the impromptu ceremony by his manager, former world champion Barry McGuigan - who is in the International Boxing Hall of Fame - and his son, Shane, who trains him. During the presentation, Astorino was given a pair of signed gloves, which he strapped on and did some work on the heavy bag under Frampton’s watchful eye.

"Training in New Rochelle has been great," Frampton said. "We love the area and the people. It's a perfect setting and camp has gone fantastic so far."

This marks Frampton’s second fight in the United States. If he wins and claims the WBA Featherweight World Championship that his manager held three decades ago.

Frampton (22-0, 14 KOs) will square off against Leo Santa Cruz (33-0-1, 18 KOs), of Mexico as the headline of the July 30 live SHOWTIME show from the Barclays Center.
