SCARSDALE, N.Y. — Scarsdale High's varsity assistant football coach Jay Ciraco has watched the Raiders prepare with ferocity and focus for their season-opener against Clarkstown North at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
“We’ve had a very good week of practice with better tempo and energy than in years past,” said Ciraco, who quarterbacked Harrison to a Section 1 Class B title. “Our captains and our seniors have been pushing everyone to be better.”
Clarkstown North also has been a program on the rise the past few years. The Scarsdale coaching staff knows this will be a tough first game.
“We feel Clarkstown North is a very strong football team so we will have to bring the intensity, play fast, limit the big plays on defense and not make have any turnovers,” Ciraco said.
Along with quarterback Andrew Verboys, Scarsdale’s offensive line is a huge asset. Led by Patrick Cannon, the line has been clicking in preseason, which will make things difficult on Clarkstown North’s front seven.
