Berkowitz won a second consecutive Section 1 Division I wrestling title and went on to finish second in the state at 182 pounds. His outstanding year was one of the top sports stories during 2012 in Scarsdale.

Currently a freshman at Northwestern, Berkowitz became only the second Scarsdale wrestler to win two sectional titles and wrestle for a state title. Berkowitz also established a program standard with 40 wins in a season.

Edgemont’s Trey Aslanian added to his wrestling resume by winning a third consecutive Section 1 Division II title in February. Aslanian went on to place second in the state at 113 pounds.

Aslanian, who committed to Princeton in November, achieved two Edgemont wrestling firsts by becoming a three-time champ and two-time state finalist. Aslanian would then become Edgemont’s winningest wrestler in December.

The Scarsdale varsity ice hockey team also had an excellent season, culminating in a trip to the Section 1 Division II title game against Pelham in February.

Scarsdale was seeded eighth entering the Section 1 Division II championships, but earned its way into the final with a victory against second-seeded Rye. Jake Bank and James Ncholas evened the score for Scarsdald through two periods, but Pelham scored in the third period for a 3-2 victory.
