Why on earth would they pick a day smack in the middle of the vacation? Not only does this NOT make sense but it forces families to change plans with only a few weeks notice. View Comment
This is yet another "black eye" for the district. The students loved this teacher. One major problem is the board/district hiding under the "we can't discuss this matter" . Once again, there wasn't good communication with the tax payers about this matter. We should have been kept up- to-date in a professional way.. Instead, all we have to go on is rumors and here say. Why is it that everything must be S-P-E-L-L-E-D out; if all communications between staff and students is done through the HHSD email-then the district can "keep an eye on things". NOTHING that is sent on district website is private. ALL things are monitored. View Comment
Why not let everyone know about the very important SEPTA meeting and information session at HHHS on Tuesday night. Very important topic discussed. View Comment
This is what you get when you have PEOPLE ON THE BOARD WHO DON'T KNOW ONE END FROM THE OTHER. The management of our school district is such a joke-they keep spending "our" money in the worst ways possible. I think the board should be replaced-they will bring down our district even more. Didn't the last administration teach us anything? View Comment
Underage drinking is a nice way of saying: breaking the law. If you don't agree with the law-then change it! Until that time, parents should teach their children to obey the law. Too many times it is the "parents" who are taking the easy way out. Hosting a "drinking" party-under the guise of keeping them safe (I.e., not having them drive drunk) is the COWARDS way of parenting. You want to be their friend? Go back in time, when you were 16 , and be their bet buds. Until that time, do what you are legally responsible for; teaching your children right from wrong. View Comment
Where was there any information about this vigil? How were people in the community going to find out? This was the first many of us heard about vigil, which is unfortunate because many more would have attended. View Comment
The real problem is that our district has been so poorly run (over the last number of years) that there is a general feeling of "why bother?". Although there was some involvement with the bond issue, the board of education's turning a deaf ear to what the public repeatedly requested left many people with this"why bother"feeling. Since when are state certified substitutes teachers babysitters? These "babysitters" as you describe them are hard working, and in many cases, with more education and experience then the dead beat teachers that feel the need to take so much time away from their jobs that they are a substantial drain on the school budget. UNDERSTAND, THIS DOES NOT MEAN ALL THE HHSD TEACHERS ARE DEADBEATS-just the ones that can't work a five day, perhaps 5 hours of work. Many of the old timers have been teaching the same subject for years- and must do minimal preparation. They are able to hide behind the union and the teachers who really do teach. If the teachers are using lesson plans, which we know they should, why isn't the lesson plan available for the subs? There would be continuity and we could have the students get the mandated number of school days set by the state. It would be a wonderful idea to have all the teachers attendance posted to see who the offenders are-putting shame where it should truly be. Our tax dollars should not go to having students choose between " socializing or completing packets". If we had a policy to remove the warm-body substitute why not go all the way and let students stay at home, in their warm beds and learn on-line? The above writer sounds like an angry teacher. Wouldn't this be a wonderful program to bring to the local middle and high schools? Each student is required to perform community service and working with the seniors in our community is wonderful. I think it would be wonderful to also have clean- up for fall leaves, too. For those who might not be able to lift heavy snow-racking leaves would be terrific. View Comment
The last thing you should be reporting on, with regard to thr HHSD is sports ANYTHING. There are so many problems within the high school. Lack of everything; including Subs for teachers. What is going on? Free periods instead of study hall-where there is a teacher in the room. What is going on? And why are the parents sitting down and doing nothing? Hey, how about going to a board meeting and voicing your anger and outrage at what this board is doing? View Comment
After many wonderful performances at Blue Mountain Middle School-I wish Mrs Arrucci the very best at her open house on Sunday. "Break a leg". View Comment
Mrs. Carey has done an outstanding job with the food at HenHud. But let us not forget the BILLIONS of dollars spent each year on the effects of poor eating habits and the youth (as well as adults) in this country. Although these changes may seem harsh or drastic, in the long run they are well worth it. View Comment
What does he have to do with the article mentioned above? sounds more like trying to infuse your political opinion where it should not be. View Comment
