Nice work, Jared! Didn't Yale teach you that a blood alcohol reading of .285 can be reached by the equivalent of consuming a PINT of 80 proof alcohol over just one hour? And that particular BA level is enough to KILL certain individuals? And I'm not talking about killing OTHER innocent follks with your vehicle. You're lucky you only damaged property... View Comment
We all know it was cold and rainy this morning, and that this young man's attire and umbrella both seem in order for the weather conditions. Over-reacting much? View Comment
Getting the Tustian house for a mere $420K is a major coup - but it highlights the dismal state of real estate in Easton. While its skyrocketing taxes go up and up with no relief in sight, Easton's property values sink into oblivion. And its "leaders" continue to keep their heads in the ground, with no initiatives to turn things around. View Comment
Quite a few members of the Easton, Redding and Region 9 boards of education were furious with him for leaving - barely a year into his three year contract. And there was no explanation offered publicly, either. Doesn't the Weston BOE find this sort of behavior reprehensible? View Comment
The man is delusional, not knowing he's at the helm of the state just recently found to be in the worst financial situation of ALL states. And for two months in a row, he's claimed that CT unemployment statistics are "wrong". Wish he would do something to make them "right" again! View Comment

What bugs me about the NBC coverage in the evenings is that it mostly focuses on all the exploits and outcomes of the USA team. Yes, we all love to watch their performances, both good and bad, but I'd really like to watch gold medal presentations (and hear the accompanying national anthems) for successful athletes from other countries. They deserve our respect and admiration too! View Comment
Good point! If this bill were to go into effect today, it might lower the price of gas by a cent or two (provided the distributors pass the decrease along to consumers). Eliminating zone pricing would have a much more significant downward impact on gas pricing in Fairfield county - which has been tabbed by the Democratic legislators to subsidize the gas oricing of the rest of Connecticut. View Comment
Mr. Duff, you'll get a lot more mileage with your Fairfield county constituents if you act to abolish zone pricing in Connecticut, which in a monopolistic manner inflates our gas prices by 10-15 cents a gallon over the rest of the state. View Comment
While there certainly is an aspect of compassion to be attributed to the selectmen's actions last week concerning Mr. Hazel's plight, one has to wonder why they went about the entire process so shrouded in secrecy. If this is solely a magnanimous decision, why did everything need to be conducted so secretly? What are the selectmen trying to hide?
Can anyone say that Mr. Hazel is truly better off living alone in his desolate hovel rather than under the care of assisted living? Do you call that compassion?
Lastly, I might be more sympathetic to Mr. Greiser's views on this sorry situation were he not a close neighbor (and probable) acquaintance of Mr. Hazel, who reportedly is a steady customer of the Greiser's store around the corner. View Comment
Everyone knows Easton is a lovely little piece of Fairfield county; sure wish its real estate values reflected its many desireable traits! View Comment
Tired of high Fairfield county gasoline prices? Rather than doing nothing and feeling helpless, please contact your state legislators to urge them to legislate a repeal of connecticut's zone pricing regulations. These regulations artificially inflate Fairfield county gas prices by a significant amount over the rest of the state.
Why should it cost a lot more to purchase gasoline in Bridgeport, which is closer to gasoline distribution points, than it does in the far reaches of the state? We're officially being gouged by zone pricing! View Comment
John McKinney's continuing quest to control state spending should be applauded. This state will go nowhere without it.
Capping the gas tax is also a great itdea, but Mr. McKinney would also benefit his Fairfield county constituents by getting current "spot zoning" provisions repealed. Why should Fairfiled county residents - especially those in its poor cities - be forced to spend roughly 15 cents more per gallon of gasoline than the rest of the state, thanks to spot zoning? Get it repealed, Senator!! View Comment
In the olden days, someone like Tom Carlson, who is both suing the town on another matter and dragging his heels to complete a simple animal shelter, would be tarred-and-feathered and run out of town on a rail. View Comment
Hmmm. This article about the disagreements between Tom and the full time firefighters brings to mind the old adage: Where there's smoke, there's fire.
Another sad truth about the recently-concluded conract negotiations with the firefighters is that it will expire in fewer than six months. Back to the negotiating table... View Comment
From the tenor of his comments, one would think that Weston's Animal Control Officer Mark Harper is trying to justify his job and its funding now that the budget season will soon be upon us... View Comment
Mr. Herrmann publicly professes to "love" the Town of Easton, but he refuses to step up and take the leadership role in resolving this crisis of confidence. Quite the fickle lover. Man up, Mr. Herrmann! View Comment
If Mr. Herrmann had a baby or an infirm individual in his household, I doubt that he would think that "two or three days is a reasonable expectation to be without power". How horribly callous of him.
In Fairfield county's 21st century, the only "reasonable" expectation is that electrical power be always available. Anything less is a failure of the State's regulatory mission to oversee the utilities and their infrastructure.
