So I have been thinking of LoHud's & Journal News' reckless act of publishing these people's named and addresses all morning and have discovered that they finally helped answer a question I've had for some time. While I am both in favor of common-sense gun control laws and background checks and also have no issue with fellow citizens choosing to obtain a firearm through legal channels, I have always wondered why the NRA has been so strongly opposed to having to get a gun permit and gun registration ... now I know. They are concerned that some third-rate member of the press, in dire need of something to compensate for mediocre reporting and poor editorial judgement and management, will inexplicably publish the names and addresses of those who have been approved for permits, as if it contributed in some way to otherwise constructive dialogue on the topic. In truth, the result is providing the elected officials and members of the NRA who might have otherwise been considering a less extreme position, on one side of the debate or the other, something concrete to point to as a reason not to agree to more reasonable middle-ground common sense gun laws. Thank you LoHud / Journal News for making the dialogue less productive and needlessly endangering more law-abiding citizens. Pathetic, selfish, and thoughtless. View Comment
Clearly only the names and home addresses of those law-abiding citizens who went through the proper channels to obtain a gun permit under the law should be listed (including police officers, soldiers, and corrections officers). Would not want to impose on the rights of those who acquired (or now have better information and plan to acquire) guns illegally by inconveniencing them in any way. Will The Journal News also be providing bus service for these criminals? Totally irresponsible and obviously motivated solely by profit. Please cancel your LoHud subscriptions. View Comment
