I guess they thought the hats would hide them from cameras but masks would have given their intent away. There were others in the store and that is scary. I am sure the insurance will help but what a frightening experience. Stores get robbed every where but hammers are effective weapons. I hope the security guard is okay. It is a shame how people think stealing is okay even if it is condiments or shopping carts. The rest of us have to pay for this in higher prices and insurance premiums. View Comment
OMG! Reminds me of what happened in White Plains after Rodney King Incident. Stores in White Plains got damaged. I am just glad I wasn't home cause I live across the street. Mall is usually just starting to open at this time but I haven't even seen the mall security guards of late in the mall. Hats do hide a lot. I hope the guard in store is okay and glad no one got hurt in the hall. Retail crime is rampant every where. How come when people steal shopping carts or baskets nothing is done. Those carts are expensive and are used all over the downtown area. View Comment
Omg! Glad I left the city today! Security in mall is like out of sight these days. Those watches are expensive. People think the mall is so safe and children run around unattended. I hope they got these people on camera. View Comment
This events are not done every day so the impact is short lived. Police can give a million tickets but it is not solving the problem. They give tons of tickets in White Plains for parking and still people don't pay or park over the time limits. They give out tickets to cars but speeding and not stopping for pedestrians is so common that all those tickets are money making but do not solve the problem. Mamaroneck Ave needs more parking and should cut out much of the large sidewalks that are not maintained well and put in side by side parking and make the street one lane in each direction. This might slow the racing down the street. City workers including garbage collectors and even the police need to go slower and not turn when it is "no turn on red." Speeding on the highways is never going to be stopped unless there is a daily monitoring and maybe post people's pictures on line. People don't like getting their pictures taken when they are breaking the law. Shame and peer pressure might work. When smoking was banned indoors at movies or in airplanes there were often people who violated the rules. Enforcement and people speaking up is what stopped it. View Comment
Understanding is what all people need and most of us don't care if one is mentally ill. They usually run. When people ask how you are doing most of us do not tell the truth cause when you say "not well" most people don't want to hear your problems cause everyone has issues. To me suicide is a personal choice but it is those that are left behind that will experience the pain. Listen to people who tell you they are not feeling well and ask if you can help. Many people are depressed and suffer is silence cause the world really does not want to know unless you are being paid like a therapist. I have been depressed and right now I am manic caused by the hormone therapy I need to have to replace my lack of a thyroid.
I have been parking in the County lot for free on weekends when there are no events so there are no attendants. I often get a spot for the train if I go early. It is a shame if they just put an attendant in the lot for the bicyclists. I used to bike the parkway but I wonder how the bikers manage the areas under construction especially going down the hill south of White Plains? I wish bicyclists would obey the laws of our communities. Often bikes use sidewalks in White Plains, go double on 22, drive through lights and rarely ever signal. I think bicycles should be licensed so they can be ticketed. Alex Baldwin did a drive in the wrong direction and got a ticket cause the police knew who he was. It is hard to go after someone on a bike. Motorcycles have to put a foot down to steady their vehicles so bikes can do the same or keep to the bike path where pedestrians have the right of way. This is so tragic and reminds me of another young boy who burned down a house and his grandmother died. Malcom X's widow, Dr. Betty Shabazz. What is up with children? Playing with fire can cause big problems for people. I wonder if they all had the required smoke detectors cause being in an apartment building is scary when you can not control the others living in one's building. We have had people leaving things on stoves that could burn and others using space heaters too close to beds. View Comment
Most people do not read signs on the road and then there are ones that are left at construction sites like in White Plains that are wrong so the confusion begins. Also, the DMV does not send out to drivers new requirements or laws like the pull over rule for emergency vehicles. Many do not put on night lights when it rains. Trucks often go too fast to read any signs. I have seen large vehicles go into parking lots even when they hit the bar that tries to stop people from going into lots. I see this in White Plains all the time as well as cars going the wrong way. Federal Court House workers use the road by the Court House that is for Police Vehicles only and one day 2 cars turned into street on the wrong side of the road while I was trying to cross the street. I think that you can put a million signs up but mostly those who obey the laws will be the ones to follow them. These trucks should be fined and fined and not their company but the drivers. Too many tragedies are happening with buses, cars and even bicyclists not obeying the laws. I also feel bicyclists need to be licensed just like dogs are to ride anywhere on public streets cause now they are all over on sidewalks, in crosswalks and do not stop at lights.
Autistic children keep leaving places where they are safe. Electronic monitoring might be a good idea to prevent future problems. Same goes for people with other special circumstances and Alzheimer patients. View Comment
Are there any road money slated for White Plains. Many streets need repaving. S Kensico near intersection with Main St to Westchester Ave is one of the worst places to drive in White Plains. City did curb cuts but these were not the real problem. The areas where there are cross walks are mostly patch work and very difficult to walk on. White lines need to be redone. I do hope some of the areas are in White Plains where there are many county roads.
Only reason to run is that driver was drunk and needs time for alcohol to get out of bloodstream. It is hard not to be caught once the car is left at scene unless stolen. I once got hit waiting for a light to change on Bryant. Pick up hit me and another car and sped away. Two cars turned around and went after truck. One car had an off duty policeman, who caught up with driver. Teen driving pick up didn't have license on him and it was his bosses truck. No tickets were issued to Teen driver and that I could not forgive WP police for. He left the scene of an accident. One has 24 hours to show license proof, so not having license on one's person is not a crime but leaving the scene was. Other police came and there was a report. People need to be held accountable. These wrong way driving incidents seem more common but maybe cause of the accidents. Drivers often go the wrong way on WP streets and luckily no one has gotten hurt. But the driver gets away and these incidents are becoming more and more common. Bicycles doing wrong way also get away with it and going on sidewalks as well as going through lights. Hard to catch bike riders. On 22 bicyclists take over whole lanes and go through lights. Very bad. View Comment
It took some time for your restaurant to open but I am glad that the boarded up exterior was taken down. I like the look from the street of your restaurant. One day, I might buy some take out but it not that close to my home. I don't drive in the downtown area. Your menu looks good and I took one today. Good luck and keep things like you did at the opening. Your location is great and the restaurant you replaced had been a mainstay on the street for many years. Service, product and looks are the things that make or break a restaurant in White Plains. Keep your street area in front of store clean and don't depend on BID to always be out there. We have a number of people who just hangout on your block all day trying to sell things or convert people. Make sure you shovel your sidewalk in the winter! View Comment
Heard Lilli Pilli is owned by Capelli's wife. Not thrilled with menu. Too many bar/restaurants in area & competition is killing even good businesses. Rents are too high. Mamaroneck Area/Post Rd corridor is ugly and filthy. Sidewalks/roads need to be redone, not just patched. Parking fees are a big turn off. People don't want to walk even a block to get to entrance especially when everything is unattractive. Areas where plantings are or used to be need to be redesigned, maintained; cleaned up. Either plant trees in empty areas or get rid off them. Planters are empty most of the year and are ugly during colder months. A planter next to a planting section is taking up sidewalk walking space. Brick on sidewalks, often come loose or are gone. Begging, illegal selling, bottle people with store shopping carts & Jehovah Witnesses people don't attract new people to area. Rents are too high and many empty stores in this area. Bricks in street where this restaurant is doesn't help and they need to clean the black step up area along Post Rd that is dirty. Webster Bank has dead plant in entrance way across the street. Dog owners not curbing dogs along Waller Ave in grass along sidewalk is a turn off. Construction has also been a turn off especially on Main Street, Waller and around hospital. Tall buildings bring wind and make it difficult to walk. Park on Main St next to Grace Church hasn't been completed and with Renaissance Plaza Fountain the city is turning all but the homeless away. City not fixing things like traffic light by Macy's is a problem. Traffic lights are too long for pedestrians so many just cross in front of on going cars or in middle of roads. Cars don't let pedestrians cross first. Lines for crosswalks, stop lines and lanes fading away. Fix the little things so people will walk down the streets giving the opened stores business.
