Sunny skies will prevail Wednesday with slightly warmer-than-seasonal temperatures, though winds will pick up in the afternoon, but then rain and possible thunderstorms are headed to the region Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Clouds will begin to roll in overnight Wednesday when the mercury drops about 20 points, and winds will be variable and light, according to the Weather Service.

Periods of rain start around the middle of the day Thursday and continue into the afternoon under a shroud of clouds, with temperatures not much higher than 80 degrees. Around a quarter and half of an inch of water is possible with this system.

Most of the severe thunderstorms associated with the front are expected south of New York City, according to AccuWeather.com.

Friday will bring a brighter day with the sun out and warmer air around 82 degrees.

Overnight will be clear, bringing cooler air down about 20 degrees.

Saturday welcomes the sun again, and summer air will be near seasonal.

Saturday night remains calm with clear skies and cooler air around 63 degrees.

Sunday will be a sunny one, with slightly higher-than-normal air, near 85 degrees.
