Scarsdale Teens Organize Third Teen Writers' Conference

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Local authors will share their experience with Scarsdale students at the third-annual Teen Writers' Conference April 5 at Scarsdale High School.

The conference is sponsored by the Scarsdale Library’s Teen Advisory Board, a group of readers and book enthusiasts who meet once a month to share what each is reading and talk about organizing programs.

Its Teen Writer’s Conference this year will feature Jacob Appel, Carrie Gilpin, Brian Brown, Barbara Josselsohn and other local authors. Each author will lead a workshop and each student will be able to take two workshops. In past years, workshops have focused on creating plots and characters, learning about the making of novels, writing pieces of comedy, writing reviews and pitching ideas to editors.

The free event is open to students in grades six through 12. But, donations are encouraged and checks may be made payable to Friends of the Scarsdale Library and submitted at the event. Students in grades six through eight will take workshops separately from those in grades nine through 12.

“The high school students plan and run the whole thing,” Nancy Zachary, young adult librarian, said. Registration forms for the event are available at the Scarsdale Library, high school and middle school and online.

The Teen Writers' Conference will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. April 5 at the Scarsdale High School, 1057 Post Road.
