Wespac To Celebrate Earth Day With Greenburgh Garden Event

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Earth Day will be celebrated in Greenburgh with the planting of a community garden, says WESPAC, an organizer of the free event.

Earth Day will be celebrated in Greenburgh on Sunday, April 17, with the preparing of a community garden and compost bins, and a neighborhood clean-up.

WESPAC is a White Plains-based umbrella group for progressive activists.

The public is invited to join members of several community groups as they prepare the garden and composting bins from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sunday, April 17 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 180 Juniper Hill Road.

Organizations and individuals participating in the event include: local farmer Doug DeCandia, Dig Farm, the Seventh Day Adventist congregation, and local Starbucks employees.

Participants are asked to bring gardening gloves, trash bags, rakes, trowels, spades and shovels.

Lunch will be provided by Chef Giovanni D'Amour of Break Bread Not Hearts.

Blood pressure screening and a health checkup will be provided by medical professionals from the church’s congregation.
