SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Scarsdale Adult School has many art appreciation courses, museum previews, and guided tours in May.

Artist Lynne Mayocole begins a three-session course to enlighten students on "The Very High Renaissance in Italy and Beyond," paying homage to da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raphael, and others. Class begins on May 7 and meets on Thursdays, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Scarsdale Public Library.

On Sunday, May 17, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., she will guide students on a tour through the Museum of Biblical Art, where sculptures by Donatello and his contemporaries are on loan from Florence’s Museum of the Duomo.

Mayocole returns for a weekday lunchtime stroll, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., through the Galleries of Soho on Thursday, May 28.

Elizabeth Thompson Colleary, consultant to the Whitney Museum and art history teacher at both the college level and at Scarsdale High School, previews Sir Frederic Leighton’s bold painting, "Flaming June," which will be on display at the Frick Collection this summer. The lecture, on Thursday, May 28, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Scarsdale High School, will also discuss Leighton’s celebrated work in relation to the Frick Collection’s other depictions of women by artists such as Vermeer, Fragonard, and Reynolds.

Tina Weintraub, head docent at the National Academy Museum, will lead students through the Galleries of 57th Street from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, May 8.

The next week, Rick Starr discusses Photography as Fine Art on Friday, May 15, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Scarsdale Public Library.

The Scarsdale Adult School collaboration with the New York Botanical Garden commences with a Wednesday evening one-hour $25 lecture on May 20, at 6:30 p.m. entitled "Frida Kahlo: Art and Life." Students can follow that up with two separate walking tours on Tuesday morning, June 2 – one of the conservatory at 10 a.m. and one of the library (limited space still available in the 9:15 a.m. slot only).
