SCARSDALE Betsy Kase's timing was impeccable Monday afternoon as she chatted in her new Yoga Haven location at 91 Montgomery Ave. on the Scarsdale-Eastchester line.
"It's a great location, great visibility," she said. "People are just walking in off the street."
As she spoke, the door opened and a woman entered, saying she was driving by and saw the sign and decided to come in and check it out. Yoga Haven has been open at 62 Main St., Tuckahoe, for 15 years, building a business that includes 55 classes, 30 teachers and, Kase said, 2,100 students a month.
"We literally outgrew the other location," said the Scarsdale resident. "We wanted to make a new space and we also wanted to offer more specialty classes. We'll have classes for kids, for seniors, like chair yoga, and women's-centered classes -- breast cancer yoga, pre-natal yoga, menopause yoga along with our regular classes."
The new space features a 1,200-square-foot studio with a cork floor. The foyer has a bright, contemporary feel, with earth-tone floor tiles and an ocean-blue accent wall, and a collection of hanging birdcage lamps from India that form a unique chandelier. It's a marked change from the former Eastchester glass office.
"We were up all night doing this the last week," Kase said. "We built this in seven weeks. It's more hip, a little more New York" than the Tuckahoe location, which Kase said was more "homey."
While the business is up and running, Kase said there is still work to do before it is complete. A grand opening party will be held from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21.
