SCARSDALE, N.Y. Get ready, Scarsdale-area drivers: Crane Road Bridge is coming down.
The Bronx River Parkway bridge comprising two interconnected bridges built in 1924 which spans the Bronx River and the Metro North railroad tracks will be replaced in four stages over 34 months, according to Scarsdale Mayor Miriam Levitt-Flisser. Flisser said Tuesday that staging for the first phase will begin "in the coming weeks."
The bridge replacement is being supervised and paid for by Westchester County.
According to prepared remarks delivered at Tuesday night's Village Board of Trustees meeting, Flisser said that Stage 1 should take 10 months and does not include any closures of the Crane Road exits. That work coincides with what is expected to be the completion of the Popham Road bridge replacement. The Popham Road project is 13 months behind schedule.
"For the 24-month balance of the project," Flisser said, "both Crane Road exits will be closed," and traffic will be directed to use Harney Road. Access to the village will be on Scarsdale Avenue and East Parkway. Intersections will be controlled by police personnel at county expense during peak traffic periods.
The northbound entrance from Crane Road will remain open throughout the project.
