SCARSDALE, N.Y. - For at least one pair of Scarsdale merchants, the message from Black Friday was the same: It's all good.
"It was a strong weekend," Jeff Zacharia of Zachy's, at 16 East Parkway, said Monday. "We sold a lot of wine."
Not only was business good on Black Friday, he said, but he sees a trend.
"I expect it to continue. There's no reason for it to change," he said. "We've already taken more gift orders than last year. Things are up 5 to 8 percent. I couldn't be happier."
Zacharia also said things look good for the future. When it comes to spending, "People are moving back closer to before the crash."
A few doors down, at La Dentrlliere, 20 East Parkway, Chuck Anderson was likewise pleased with the season's shopping kickoff.
"We did well. I can't complain. We did well in our Bronxville store, too," he said. "Traffic patterns are very strong this year. More people are staying home and entertaining as opposed to going away. It seems like traffic is better."
Both stores were seeing a steady stream of customers around noon Monday and parking was at a premium in the village.
Anderson echoed Zacharia when it came to looking ahead.
"Consumer spending habits are stronger," he said. "We're not seeing the big luxury purchases, but we're making up for it in volume in the low- to mid-range items."
