Scarsdale Cell Phone Theft Victim Tracks it Down

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – A Scarsdale woman reported that her cell phone was taken Friday night from the Westchester Reform Temple on Mamaroneck Road. The woman said she had the phone, an iPhone 4 valued at $400, when she arrived at 5:30 p.m., according to a police report, but later noticed it missing. She told police she was able to track the phone using her home computer and her phone's GPS, and located it in Greenwich. The incident is under investigation.

Identity Theft:

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – A Scarsdale man told police he discovered several charges totaling nearly $1,700 made at the Fontainbleu Resort and the Renaissance Hotel in Miami Beach, Fla., all dated Oct. 11. The man contacted the Renaissance Hotel and was told the suspect had checked in and was still at the hotel. The hotel contacted Miami Beach Police, the report said, and officers arrested two men from Brooklyn. The suspects’ names were not released. The Scarsdale man said there was also an internet transfer of $2,000 made Oct. 7 from a checking account set up for his daughter. The Scarsdale Police are continuing to investigate.

Burglary: The residents of a River Road home reported at 9:28 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, their home was burglarized and a necklace and a watch were taken. They told police the combined value was $10,500. The police report said a window had been broken. The incident remains under investigation.

Harassment: A woman on Ridgedale Road reported at 10:49 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, that someone in a vehicle drove by while she walked her dog and yelled her last name. She said it is an ongoing problem and that she does not recognize the voice or vehicle. Police agreed to do extra patrols in the area.

Counterfeit checks: Zachy's Wine & Liquor Store at 16 East Parkway reported that counterfeit checks bearing the name "Zachys Wine Auctions, Inc." were passed between Sept. 5 and Oct. 13 for a total of $22,397. The fraud was discovered by Zachy's accounting department. Chase Bank has turned the problem over to its fraud department.

Noise complaints: Police were called at 9:20 a.m. Sunday regarding power equipment being used in the area of 1200 Post Rd. before 10 a.m. in violation of Scarsdale Village Code. Police told the user about the restriction. At 9:21 a.m., a similar complaint was made in the 50 block of Sycamore Road. Police did not find power tools in use and workers said they were aware of the rule and were abiding by it.

Theft: A White Plains man reported Sunday that his motorcycle saddlebags, vehicle registration and personal papers were taken from his motorcycle parked in the loading zone in front of Zachy's Wine & Liquor Store, 16 East Parkway, between 1:35 p.m. and 1:45 p.m.
