Salimbene, along with his wife Marie, were inside the home when the fire broke out around 3:30 p.m. Marie was able to make it out of the house with serious burns, but her husband, who was believed to be in the basement, was trapped.
Scarsdale Fire Chief James Seymour said the medical examiner had made a positive identification of the body as being Dr. Salimbene.
Marie Salimbene remains in the hospital, he added.
The couple, known for making elaborate candles during the holiday season, had seven children, 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, said News 12.
Several family members showed up Tuesday to try and retrieve any items that were not destroyed before the house is torn down, reported News 12.
The cause of the fire has been undetermined at this time, but fire investigators are still on scene, Seymour said.
