A deal has reportedly been reached between the Los Angeles County district attorney's office and Durst's attorneys that he be extradited from New Orleans by Aug. 18, the statement said, Los Angeles Times reports.

The agreement, the district attorney's office made public depends on Durst making a separate plea deal in Louisiana on a federal weapons and his his related sentencing in that case, says the article.

Durst, a former Lewisboro resident, gained national attention this year as the subject of an HBO drama, "The Jinx," about the 1982 disappearance of Durst’s wife, Kathy, in 1982, and the killing of Berman found in her Benedict Canyon home shot. In it, Durst is caught muttering what sounded like a confession to the killings into a microphone off-camera.

Durst left his final interview to use the bathroom, appearing not to notice that his microphone was still recording as he muttered to himself, “What the hell did I do? Killed them all, of course," recounts the Los Angeles Times."

Durst, 71, was arrested in New Orleans in March one day before the final episode of the HBO documentary, "Jinxed," showed him nearly confessing to murder, NBC News reported.

The warrant for Durst's arrest was related to the 2000 slaying of Susan Berman, but according to New York State Police investigator Joseph C. Becerra, both his division and the Westchester District Attrorney's office are still looking into the 1982 disappearance of Durst's wife Kathleen.
