All hands were on deck on Tuesday as crews dealt with three fires that broke out in area homes, leaving a firefighter with a minor injury and several families displaced in the most recent blaze, which occurred in the evening.

After battling blazes in Yonkers on Park Avenue - where a woman died in a basement fire - and Brookdale Avenue, crews were called to a Warburton Avenue apartment at approximately 7:15 p.m. on Dec. 4, when a fire broke out in between the walls of two floors.

Yonkers Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Flynn said that the one-alarm fire required approximately 45 firefighters.

The blaze started in the walls of the first and second floors of the building and spread to the roof. He said that firefighters had to open walls, ceilings and parts of the roof as they searched for pockets of fire when the flames were knocked down.

Firefighters were at the scene for two hours as they checked the building for any pockets of fire. The eight families displaced by the blaze and taken to a temporary shelter in Yonkers as the Red Cross and Office of Emergency Management seek temporary housing for those who need it. It is unclear if the families will be able to return to the build.

Flynn noted that one firefighter suffered a minor injury, though no residents were hurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
