Officers were dispatched to a Nelson Road home late last month, where there were reports of a domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, police said that they immediately observed the victim, crying and having a coughing fit, and observed the defendant, a 44-year-old resident who is the victim's father, yelling loudly. According to the officers, the father stated that for over a year, his son “has been inappropriately touching his wife,” and on that day, he did it again.

According to police, the father told his son to stop, and he did not, so he slapped him. He then told officers that his son began throwing items around the room after being stopped and when he told his son to stop, he called the father an obscenity prompting him to grab his son and punch him. When his son attempted to get away, police said that his father grabbed him and put his arm on his back to pin him down.

Police said that the father “showed no remorse for his actions and even stated several times, ‘but he called me (the same expletive as earlier),” and “he kicked me.” Officers then spoke with his wife, who “concurred with her husband’s story and seemingly agreed with his actions.”

Officers proceeded to speak with his other son, who stated that he heard his brother yelling for help, but did not witness the incident. He noted that he believed that this was the first time his father had struck him.

The man was arrested and charged with misdemeanor counts of assault and endangering the welfare of a child. He was released on $5,000 cash bail and an order of protection was issued for his son. He is due back in court later this week to answer the charges.
