Scarsdale Fire Department Investigating Possible Propane Leak

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Traffic has been restricted in Scarsdale as the fire department investigates a 500 gallon residential underground propane tank on Mayflower Road that may be leaking.

Shortly after 3 p.m. on Wednesday, officials with the Scarsdale Fire Department teamed with the Yonkers Fire Department Hazardous Material crew and fire crews from several nearby municipalities to look into potential leak.

As a precaution, several nearby homes were evacuated as fire crews worked at the scene. No injuries have been reported.

According to Scarsdale Police Capt. Thomas Altizio traffic will be restricted in the area of Colonial, Continental, Blackhawk and Mayflower Roads as the investigation continues on Wednesday afternoon. Additionally, electrical service near Colonial Acres will be shut down until the investigation concludes.

While traffic is restricted on village streets, the police expect that traffic on Mamaroneck Road near the Hutchinson River Parkway will be heavier than usual.
