According to a report filed by Det. Joseph Serio on Saturday, Maria Rangel, 36, was arrested and charged with a felony count of grand larceny after pocketing a Western Union envelope containing $2,000 from her Popham Road employer’s apartment.

The money was stolen on Tuesday, Nov. 12 by the White Plains-based housekeeper, though the homeowner and her husband only recently discovered the missing cash after spending time in the hospital.

Rangel was arrested on Saturday and her husband returned the cash, in full, to detectives, after it had been deposited into the family’s checking account.

This is the second time this month that an employee that had access to a village home was arrested for robbing their employers. On Friday, Nov. 15, White Plains carpenter Robert Satenberg was arrested for stealing more than $30,000 in jewelry from several Scarsdale homes that he was working in.

Rangel was released on her own recognizance and is due back in Scarsdale Village Court on Wednesday morning.
