The incident took place around 9:25 a.m. Wednesday on Ketchum Avenue in Buchanan when the woman went outside to check the 5-foot hole that used to hold an old tank in her yard, said Buchanan Police Chief Brian Tubbs.
"She went out to check the area due to all of the rain on Tuesday," Tubbs said.
The woman ended up falling into the hole and being trapped until the home health aide found her and called for help.
It took numerous first responders to help remove the woman from the hole that may have also once been used to hold run-off water, the chief said.
A ladder was lowered into the hole and the woman was helped up as others worked to hold dirt back that was collapsing in on the hole, he added.
The woman was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
