UPDATE: A total of 245 votes were cast Tuesday in the Scarsdale village election, David Irwin, campaign chair of the Scarsdale Citizen's Non-Partisan Party, wrote in an email. There was one write-in vote for mayor cast for former trustee Robert Harrison. But, all candidates ran unopposed.

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Voter turnout Tuesday was higher than expected with 129 residents casting their ballots as of 6 p.m. in four uncontested races, said the election inspectors working the one polling location at Scarsdale Village Hall.

Polls were open from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday. About 20 residents voted during the morning. Election inspectors said this was expected considering the inclement weather that caused a two-hour delay at Scarsdale schools.

Village Clerk Donna Conkling said the usual turnout for uncontested elections is 200 to 250 voters, and she expected the majority of voters to turn out after work. Since coming to Scarsdale in 2001, elections have been uncontested each year except in 2011 and 2012.

A write-in campaign in 2010 led to more than 1,000 votes but failed to defeat the slate of candidates chosen by the village's nonpartisan nominating committee. The committee is made up of 30 members and chooses candidates to fill vacant trustee seats. The village has used this committee for 70 years.

This year, the committee selected William Stern and Thomas Martin to fill two vacancies left by trustees Robert Harrison and Bob Steves.

After serving two terms, Steves ran for mayor.
