Children will create scenery and props in an art class, learn songs and dance numbers in a dance class, and learn lines in a theater class, to culminate into a final production on the last day of the workshop.

DAC Dance Director Bonnie Gombos will run the dance portion of the workshop, while Heather Kahlert, art teacher at the DAC, will teach the visual art portion. Sessions will take place in the DAC Weatherstone Studio, which houses a black box theater, and the Visual Arts studio, where all DAC art classes take place.

The “Let’s Put on a Show” Workshop will be available in two sessions of nine classes that meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Summer Session 1 will run from July 7 through July 25, and Summer Session 2 will run from July 28 through Aug. 15.

For the younger set, the DAC offers the “Preschool Art and Dance” Workshop for ages 3 through 5, that meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Preschoolers will learn about dance and the joy of movement and imaginative story-telling, while the visual art component will focus on the magic of mixing colors and using materials to create two- and three-dimensional projects. A snack is included and children can be enrolled in up to five sessions that run from June through August. Each session consists of four classes.

The Darien Arts Center, located at 2 Renshaw Road, behind Town Hall, offers a variety of programs in dance, visual arts, music and theater and summer classes and programs include all age groups from preschoolers to adults.
