The Dixon family’s home went up in flames on Thursday, April 13, according to a GoFundMe launched by Marisa Mazzuca of Watchung the same day.

The second-alarm fire occurred on Hudson Avenue in North Plainfield and prompted a response from several surrounding agencies, according to the South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department.

“The Dixon family was met with tragedy today after their home caught on fire,” Mazzuca writes in the fundraiser. “Luckily, no one was injured but the damage done leaves the home unrecognizable. They also lost their car due to this fire.”

With four young girls — Sydney, Amanda, Abbey, and Rylie — Mazzuca lovingly describes the Dixon family as “some of the kindest people one could ever meet.”

Meanwhile, Mazzuca says there are other ways to help by donating items that will be collected until the Dixons are arranged with more permanent shelter.

“I’m asking for you to consider helping this wonderful family in any way that you can,” Mazzuca writes. “Any amount will be greatly appreciated, and if you have/would like to donate any items, feel free to message me and I will find a way to store these items until they are set up with housing.”

More than $4,300 had been raised as of Tuesday, April 18.

Several local fire departments urged donations as well:

“Please consider helping our neighbors,” wrote the Watchung Fire Department.
