Shortly after 10 a.m., a threat was discovered, written on a bathroom wall, forcing administrators to call for an evacuation of the building. Students were kept on the athletic fields before being bussed to the middle school.

Officials from the Scarsdale Police Department were assisted in an emergency sweep of the building by the local fire department and members of the Westchester County bomb squad.

“As a precaution, students (have been) relocated to another school The Scarsdale Police Department is conducting a search of the high school with the assistance of the Westchester County Police,” Scarsdale Capt. Thomas Altizio stated. “The incident is being actively investigated by the department’s Investigations Section.”

Scarsdale Schools Superintendent Thomas Hagerman told parents that he expects students will be able to return to the high school for a regular dismissal. He requested that parents don’t go to the middle or high school to maintain a level or normalcy for students.

“We do not believe this is a credible threat; however, in an abundance of caution, we evacuated the high school and students were taken to the middle school,” he said. “At this point, the police are at the high school with the county bomb squad doing a comprehensive sweep of the building.”

“As soon as we get clearance, we will return the students to the high school for a normal release.”
