SCARSDALE, N.Y. Scarsdale Middle School PTA and the Scarsdale Recreation Department are taking registrations for spring After School Club programs . Sessions will run from 2:35 p.m. to 3:25 p.m., in time for students to catch the late bus, unless otherwise noted. Registration can be completed online or at the Recreation Department located in Village Hall. Registration deadline is Jan. 27.
Club options include:
Model airplane : Students build from scratch, fly and take home three different airplane models. Students will go outdoors to fly their models and see them in action. Each student learns to read plans, use metric rulers, make necessary calculations and work with different hobby tools. Fee $225. Jan. 31 to April 17.
Teen yoga: Dr. Lois Rogalski is a certified yoga and Pilates instructor who recently presented a talk to the Scarsdale School District about the benefits of yoga in increasing children's academic and social-emotional skills. Fee $180. Jan. 31 to April 17.
Photography: Students will learn how to use lighting, composition and environment to create great photographs, and will be encouraged to explore their own sense of vision. Cameras will be provided for each student. Instructor Charles Wiesehahn studied at the Pratt Institute and Art Students League. He has owned and operated his own advertising photography business for several years, and has taught at The School of Visual Arts. Fee $215 (includes materials). Feb. 1 to April 18.
Party one-on-one (cooking): All cooking is hands on. Instructor Rhoda Garron has taught cooking classes to children and adults for more than 20 years. She has taught several after school programs at various grade schools and the Mid-Westchester YCMA. Fee: $235, (includes materials). Feb. 2 to April 19.
Drama: This club is for newcomers and experienced actors and actresses. Activities include improvisations and theater games. Improvs will be developed into scenes or even a play. Instructor Kathleen McCarthy is a creative writing instructor at Westchester Community College, has taught in after school programs for 10 years and has spent three summers as drama director at Concordia College's Camp. Fee: $175. March 15 to May 24.
Keyboarding: In the Basic session, learn typing, word processing and tips to successfully using the computer. The advanced session is for those who wish to continue where the basic course left off. Instructor is Vickie Beardsley. Place: Popham Computer Center. Fee: $125.
