Still Time To Register For Scarsdale Adult School

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – For adults who believe learning doesn’t end when you graduate, there's still time to register for several popular classes at the Scarsdale Adult School.

On Monday, Oct. 1, Dr. Ronald J. Brown will teach a triple-header of classes. In the early afternoon, he’ll take students on a virtual tour of Harlem, the Lower East Side, Flushing and Fifth Avenue. Learn about these locales without having to leave the comfort of Scarsdale. Then, he’ll guide students through the religions of the world, examining the teachings of Mormons, Pentecostal Christians, Orthodox and Hasidic Jews and Black Muslims. Finally, Brown will analyze the changes the South has undergone over time in his class “The South: America’s Largest Minority.”

On Tuesday, Oct. 2, Dr. John T. King, music director at Hitchcock Presbyterian Church, will begin a five week course on the “Great Conductors of the 20th Century.” King will delve into the politics, private lives and artistry of many of the great conductors.

On Friday, Oct. 5, Lorella Brocklesby will look into the reign of Queen Victoria in her class “Glamorous Stages: England’s Victorian Theater.” Students will learn why rowdy audiences flocked to the theater for extravagant and often scandalous productions.

Ruth Handel returns for a fifth semester of poetry instruction on Tuesday, Oct. 9. This semester’s theme will be female poets of the 20th century, with attention being paid to personal and political experience portrayed through poetry.
